Monseigneur Kallistos (Ware) elevated to Metropolitan of Diokleia The Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Constantinople has officially announced that Bishop Kallistos (Ware) is elevated as Metropolitan of Diokleia. The newly constituted Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Constantinople met for the first time from 28 to 30 March 2007, under the presidency of Patriarch Bartholomew. On the last working day of the Synod meeting, His Excellency Bishop Kallistos of Diokleia, university professor and new President of the Joint Dialogue between Orthodox and Anglicans, was unanimously elevated to Metropolitan of Diokleia. Born in 1934, Timothy Ware was originally an Anglican. An Oxford classics scholar, he became a monk of the monastery of Saint John on Patmos, taking the name Kallistos. Later he became auxiliary bishop of the Greek Orthodox Diocese of Great Britain, and professor of theology at the University of Oxford. Metropolitan Kallistos is the author of several traditional orthodox publications including the Orthodox Church, the Church of the Seven Councils, Approaching God, and the Orthodox Way. Anchored in the tradition of the Church, but open to the world and its modern way of living, Metropolitan Kallistos is a true 'front runner' or 'messenger' between the Christians of East and West.
