Deacon:  Wisdom. Stand up. Hear the Holy Gospel.

Priest:    Peace to you all.

People:   And to your spirit.

Deacon:   A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Saint Luke [19:1-10]

People:  Glory to You Lord. Glory to You.

Priest:   Listen.

Deacon:

At that time, Jesus entered Jericho, and was going through the town when a man named Zacchaeus appeared.  He was one of the senior tax collectors and wealthy.

He wanted to see what sort of person Jesus was. But he was too short to see him in the crowd, so he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree to see Jesus as he passed by.

When Jesus arrived there he looked up and said to him, ‘Zacchaeus get down. Hurry. Because I will stay at your house today.’ And he hurried down and welcomed him gleefully.

The crowd complained when they saw what was happening. They said, ‘He has gone to stay at a sinner’s house.’

But Zacchaeus did not back down. He said to the Lord, ‘Look master, I will give half my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anyone, I will pay them back four times the amount.’

So Jesus said to him, ‘Today salvation has come to this house, because this man is also a son of Abraham, and because the Son of Man has come to find and save the lost.’

People: Glory to You Lord, Glory to You.
