Deacon:  Wisdom. Stand up. Hear the Holy Gospel.

Priest:    Peace to you all.

People:   And to your spirit.

Deacon:   A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Saint John [1:29-34]

People:  Glory to You Lord. Glory to You.

Priest:   Listen.

Deacon:

The next day, John saw Jesus coming towards him and said, ‘Look, there is the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.

‘He is the one I spoke about when I said, “A man is coming after me who ranks before me, because He existed before me.”

‘I did not know Him myself, but to reveal Him to Israel was why I came baptising with water.’

John also affirmed, ‘I saw the Spirit coming down like a dove from heaven onto Him, and resting on Him.’

‘I did not recognise Him myself, but He who sent me to baptise with water had said to me, “The man the Spirit comes down and rests on, is the One who is going to baptise with the Holy Spirit”.’

‘Yes I have seen, and I am the witness, that He is the Chosen One of God.’

People: Glory to You Lord, Glory to You.
