Deacon:  Wisdom. Stand up. Hear the Holy Gospel.

Priest:   Peace to you all.

People:  And to your spirit.

Deacon: A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Saint Matthew [17:14-23]

People:  Glory to You Lord. Glory to You.

Priest:   Listen.

Deacon:

At that time, as they were joining the crowd, a man came to Jesus and knelt before him. He said, 'Lord, have pity on my son, for he is a lunatic and in wretched condition. He always falls into the fire or the water. I took him to your disciples, but they could not cure him.'

Jesus replied, 'Faithless and perverse generation. How much longer must I be with you? Bring him here to me.'

When Jesus rebuked the demon, it left, and the boy was immediately healed.

The disciples then came privately to Jesus. They asked, 'Why couldn't we cast it out?' Jesus answered, 'Because you have too little faith. I tell you solemnly, if you had faith the size of a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, "Move from here to there", and it would move. Nothing would be impossible for you.'

When they were together in Galilee one day, Jesus said to them, 'The Son of Man is going to be given over to the power of men. They will put him to death. But on the third day he will be raised to life again'.

And the disciples were greatly saddened.

People: Glory to You Lord, Glory to You.
