His Eminence Metropolitan Kirilos (Doumat), the Antiochian Orthodox Primate of Argentina, fell asleep in the Lord on Monday April 10, 2006 at 1.30pm at the age of 76. The funeral took place on Thursday 13 April 2006 at the Cathedral of San Jorge in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the archiepiscopal church of Metropolitan Kirilos.

His falling asleep was noted "with extreme sadness" by North American Primate Metropolitan Philip.

Australia and New Zealand Primate Metropolitan Paul asks all to please remember Metropolitan Kirilos in our prayers.

Principal dates for Metropolitan Kirilos

Born in the city of Alepo in the Arabic Republic of Syria on 1 February 1930.

Entered religious life at the Monastery of Our Lady of Balamand in Lebanon, and commenced theological and priestly studies there.

Was ordained deacon by Monseigneur Rafael Nemer, Archbishop of Alepo in 1949 at Alepo. 

After a fruitful diaconate, on 15 August 1956 was ordained priest by Monseigneur Ignatius Hereikeh, Archbishop of Hama, in Hama, Syria.

After a short period, moved to Athens, Greece, to complete his higher theological studies.   By request of His Beatitude Alexander III Patriarch of Antioch, he was elevated to Archimandrite by Monseigneur Theoklitos, Archbishop of Athens and Primate of All Greece, on 1 October 1956 in Athens.

On 15 October 1969 he was consecrated Bishop of Bagdad (Iraq) and Kuwaith and left his homeland.

At the direction of His Beatitude Ignatius IV Patriarch of Antioch, he journeyed to Argentina and on 9 April 1982 became Patriarchal Vicar to guide the new archdiocese of Argentina.

On 8 October 1996 he was elevated to the rank of Metropolitan by the Holy Synod of Antioch.

He reposed in the Lord on 10 April 2006 in his archiepiscopal city of Buenos Aires.  His funeral was held on 13 April 2006 in his archiepiscopal cathedral of San Jorge, Buenos Aires.
