Deacon: Wisdom! Arise! Hear the Holy Gospel! Priest: Peace to you all. People: And to your spirit. Deacon: A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Saint Mark (8:34-9:1) People: Glory to You Lord. Glory to You. Priest: Listen! Deacon: At that time, Jesus called the people and his disciples to him. He said, 'If anyone wants to be a follower of mine, he must surrender himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. Anyone who holds onto his life, will lose it. But anyone who lets go of his life for my sake, and the sake of the Gospel, will save it. 'What benefit is it then, for someone to win the whole world, but lose his life? Indeed, what can anyone offer in exchange for their life? 'If anyone in this adulterous and sinful generation is ashamed of me and what I say, then the Son of Man will also be ashamed of them, when he comes in the glory of His Father with the holy angels'. And He said to them, 'Truly I tell you, some are standing here, who will not taste death, before they see the kingdom of God come in power'. People: Glory to You Lord, Glory to You
