Archimandrite Themistocles - Apostle to the Poor PDF Print E-mail

An interesting article has appeared in the respected independent Orthodox journal Theandros.

It is about Archimandrite Themistocles of Kenya, and formerly of Australia. It describes the plight of educated immigrants to Australia in the 1950s who were assumed by the benighted Federal government of the time, to be only good for manual labour.  The article progresses from there to sound out the influence this had on the young man, who became such a highly respected theological professor, and then apostle to the poor, displaced, and abandoned, in Nairobi, and other parts of Kenya.

The article can be found at http://www.theandros.com/themistocles.html#_ftnref21

It is not a quick read, but is a worthwhile investment of your time. You can see how the Word of God is still living in the hearts and feet of true Orthodox missionaries, going out of their comfort zones, to manifest Christian Love in action.

A living theophany.
